Cabrini Streak Ends, Falls Gwynedd-Mercy in CSAC Play

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Cabrini women's lacrosse team saw its four-game win streak come to an end Saturday, suffering a 16-14 loss at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Gwynedd-Mercy College. Junior attack Amanda Alexandrowicz (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) totaled four points on four goals in the loss.

Junior attack Erin Nollen (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) and sophomore attack Jaime O'Hanlon (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) each contributed three points on two goals and one assist. Freshman attack Jacqueline McDermott (Secane, Pa./Ridley) tallied three points, scoring three goals. Senior midfielder Anna Scholl (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) (1G, 1A) and junior midfielder Lynda Kaufmann (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) (2G) each posted two points.

In a game that featured 14 ties, the Cavaliers and Griffins played neck-and-neck throughout. Alexandrowicz's fourth goal of the game with 13:12 remaining knotted the scoring, 14-14. However, GMC closed the second half with the game's final two goals. Sophomore attack Colleen Dellostretto's score at the 5:38 mark handed the hosts a lead, 15-14, never to be relinquished.

Freshman attack Shannon Carabba provided the Griffins with an insurance marker with 4:54 remaining. Cabrini grabbed its first lead of the game, 5-4, on Alexandrowicz's second tally of the first half at the 17:40 mark. After the Griffins regained a 6-5 edge, the Cavaliers scored four of the game's next seven goals, tying the contest, 9-9, at the intermission.

Each team twice traded goals in the opening minutes of the second half. Sophomore midfielder Kristie Pollock's marker at the 18:14 mark gave the hosts a 12-11 lead. Cabrini tied the score three times in the final 17 minutes, but never hold the lead again. Carabba's fourth goal of the game with 13:28 remaining set the table for Alexandrowicz's equalizer and the Cavaliers' final tally.

Nollen led the Cavaliers with five groundballs, while Kaufmann added four. Junior goalkeeper Kate Schmid (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) notched nine saves in the loss. Carabba and Pollock each totaled six points for Gwynedd-Mercy. Dellostretto and senior midfielder Victoria Geppert each added four points.

Cabrini (9-4, 6-1) concludes its regular season schedule Sunday, April 19 at home against Colorado College. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m.
