Mary Washington Routs York in CAC First Round

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team used three goals and two assists from freshman Allie Kimmelman and three scores from Catherine Kennedy in topping York College, 18-5, in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament First Round on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 12-6 on the season, and will visit second-seeded St. Mary's College on Tuesday in the CAC semifinals.

Kimmelman started the game with the first two goals, and then Jenny Atmar scored on a Kimmelman assist for a 3-0 lead. After York scored two of the next three goals, UMW netted four straight goals, by Ellen Bikowski, Catherine Kennedy, Brittany Butler, and Kimmelman, to take an 8-2 lead. After a Meghan Doak goal for York cut the deficit to 8-3, Kennedy scored just before the halftime horn sounded to give UMW a 9-3 halftime advantage.

Sophomore Katie Wallis started the second half scoring, and, after a York goal, the Eagles scored eight of the game's last nine goals. Wallis and freshman Kaitlin Aquino each scored twice in the second half.

Mary Washington outshot York, 38-10, and had 40 ground balls to 24 for the Spartans. UMW freshman Danni Guigli had two saves, and York's Anne Feustle had 10 stops for the Spartans. In addition to her two goals, UMW's Ellen Bikowski had seven draw controls.

The Eagles will visit St. Mary's College on Tuesday in the CAC semifinals at 4:00 p.m.
