WINCHESTER, Va. – The No. 16 Cabrini men's lacrosse team extended its season-best win streak to six games Saturday, coasting to a 21-1 win against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Shenandoah University. Senior attackman Scott Reimer (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) scored six goals, including the 200th of his Cavaliers' career, in the victory against the Hornets.
Cabrini also extends the country's longest conference win streak to 84 games, including the postseason and all under ninth-year head coach Steve Colfer since 2001. The Cavaliers have won 69 consecutive contests during the regular season.
Additionally, Colfer has guided the Blue & White to its ninth 10-win season in the last nine years. Cabrini has averaged more than 13 wins a season under Colfer's tutelage, including a program-record 17 victories in 2008.
Reimer, the program's all-time leader in career goals (205) becomes Cabrini's first player ever to reach the 200-goal plateau. He is now just six points (228) shy of becoming the program's leader in career points, trailing Athletic Hall of Fame honoree Tom Lemieux's (1999-2002) standard of 233.
Junior attackman Casey Grugan (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) added three points on two goals and one assist, extending the nation's second-longest consecutive points streak to 51 games. Grugan's performance also moves him into sole possession of fifth-place all-time on the Cavaliers' single-season points chart with 69.
Freshman attackman Brian Hill (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) (2G) and sophomore midfielder Paul Skulski (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) (1G, 1A) each contributed two points with the first unit.
Sophomore attackman Jordan Coeyman (New Hope, Pa./New Hope - Solebury) led a combined 10 points generated from the Cabrini reserves with three on three goals. Senior midfielder B.J. Kletcheck (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) (2G) and sophomore midfielder Joe Strain (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) (1G, 1A) added two points off the bench.
The Cavaliers owned a comfortable 50-26 advantage in groundballs. Seniors Mike Dolente (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford), Kevin Fahey (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) and Joe Monroe (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) led the Cabrini charge, each scooping a team-high four groundballs.
Dolente and Fahey powered the Blue & White in the face-off circle, sparking the Cavaliers to an 18 for 26 afternoon. Dolente claimed 7 of 8 draws, while Fahey won 5 of 8. Sophomore specialist Mike Gurenlian (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) notched 6 of 8 face-off victories.
The Cabrini defense, led by Monroe, senior Jeff Moore (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and rookie John McSorley (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley), held the Shenandoah attack to just 13 shots and forced the hosts into 30 turnovers.
