Eastern Connecticut Bolts Past Southern Maine
GORHAM, Maine -- Junior Taylor MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) scored a game-high four goals to lead Eastern Connecticut State University to a 15-6 win over the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference game Saturday afternoon at Hodgdon Field.
The win keeps the Warriors atop the LEC standings with an undefeated 4-0 mark and lifts their overall record to 6-7. The Warriors have now won 20 straight games in conference play. The Huskies dropped their fourth straight game to slip to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in LEC play. The game was a rematch of last year's LEC championship game.
Junior Courtney Bedocs (Hamden, Conn.) complemented MacDonald scoring three goals and adding an assist for a four-pint day. Juniors Brooke Wayte (Bellport, N.Y.), Dana McLaughlin (West Hartford, Conn.) and Katie Beers (Trumbull, Conn.) scored two goals apiece. Freshman goalie Kristianna Ibsen (Shelton, conn.) turned aside 10 shots.
Junior Jessica Knight (Alfred, Maine/Massabesic) lead USM with three goals. Sophomore Jessica Martineau (Auburm, Maine/Yarmouth) had two goals. Sophomore goalie Rachel Lolley (Gorham Maine) recorded eight saves.
Eastern Connecticut scored seven consecutive goals to snap a 1-1 tie and take an 8-1 advantage. After Knight tallied her second goal, Beer, MacDonald and freshman Nicole Shusdock (Norwalk, Conn.) found the net to give the Warriors a comfortable 11-2 lead at halftime.
Southern Maine will travel to Bates College on Sunday (1:00 p.m.) for a non-conference game. Eastern Connecticut hosts the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Tuesday (4:30 p.m.) for an LEC game.
