Ohio Wesleyan Downs Kenyon in NCAC Play
Senior attacker Nick Gallagher (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) scored twice as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 3-0 run and added another goal to cap a 3-0 run that helped the Bishops thwart a Kenyon rally on the way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Lords on Saturday at Selby Field.
Gallagher put the Bishops on the scoreboard with a goal midway through the first quarter. Junior midfielder Craig Aronoff (Potomac, Md./The Bullis School) followed with a goal less than a minute later, and Gallagher struck again with a goal just 25 seconds after that, finishing off a spurt of 3 goals in a span of 1:12.
Gallagher added a goal in the opening seconds of the second quarter, but Kenyon rallied with goals by Brett Fuller and Dominique McKoy to pull to within 4-3 with 10:25 left in the period.
The Bishops countered with scores by Aronoff, junior attacker Rob Young (Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock South), and Gallagher to extend their lead to 7-3 with 1:23 remaining in the quarter.
Kenyon got a score from David Clarke to cut the deficit to 7-4 just before halftime, but the Bishop defense did not allow the Lords to score consecutive goals during the second half in preserving the lead.
Gallagher led the Bishops with 4 goals, while Aronoff and Young scored 3 goals apiece. Sophomore Jud Hall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) went the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan crease, making 6 saves.
Fuller led Kenyon with 3 goals. David Page recorded 12 saves for the Lords.
