Boxers Finish the 2009 campaign with Loss to Loggers

TACOMA, Wash. - A first half surge was enough to keep Puget Sound ahead as Pacific dropped their 2009 season finale to the Loggers, 21-15, in women's lacrosse action Saturday at the East Athletic Field.

The Loggers (9-2) outscored Pacific 13-7 in the first before Pacific equaled the UPS scoring output in the second half. Lilia Lee (Jr., Waimanalo, Hawaii) led Pacific (6-7) with five goals. Savannah McClendon (Fr., Roseburg, Ore.) added four goals while Erin Bayne (Sr., Everett, Wash.) and Monica Smith (Fr., Wilsonville, Ore.) added two apiece.

Jessica Knight and Katie Schlesinger led Puget Sound with seven goals each. Anna Gunderson connected for two while five other players had one goal each.

Both teams finished with 46 shots apiece. UPS held a 20-12 advantage in ground balls and a 14-13 edge in draw controls.

Ana Calcaino finished with 25 saves in goal for the Loggers. Valerie Nelson (Sr., Coeur D'Alene, Idaho) finished with 15 saves in 40 minutes of action. Heidi Curry (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) added nine saves over the final 20 minutes.
