No. 14 Cabrini Routs Neumann to Win Seventh Straight

RADNOR, Pa. – The No. 14 Cabrini men's lacrosse team extended its win streak to seven games with a 24-6 victory against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Neumann College Tuesday at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Senior attackman Scott Reimer (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) posted four points on four goals, matching the program's record for career points with 233.

The Cavaliers also extended the nation's longest active conference win streak to 85 games, including the postseason since 2001. The Blue & White is unbeaten versus CSAC foes during the regular season in its last 70 games.

Reimer, also the program's all-time leader in career goals (210), enters Saturday's contest against Marywood University one point shy of becoming the all-time leader in points. Cabrini Athletic Hall of Fame honoree Tom Lemieux (1999-02) owns the standard, totaling 233 points on 102 goals and 131 assists.

Junior attackman Casey Grugan (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) led the Cavaliers' offense, notching six points on three goals and three assists. Grugan extends the nation's second-longest consecutive points streak to 51 games. Grugan also moves into sole possession of second place, increasing his single-season point total to 75. Today's performance versus Neumann surpasses Reimer's output (74) during the 2008 season.

Sophomore midfielder Paul Skulski (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) recorded four points, pairing two goals with two assists. Senior Matt Conaway (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) (2G), sophomore Dan Terenick (Woodlynn, Pa./Ridley) (1G, 1A) and freshman Brian Hill (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) (1G, 1A) each added two points. The Cavaliers' bench contributed a combined 14 points, led by three on two goals and one assist from sophomore midfielder Joe Strain.

Cabrini claimed a season-high 66 groundballs against 40 from the Knights. Senior Mike Dolente (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford), senior Kevin Fahey (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) and freshman Steve Gregg (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) powered the charge, each scooping five.

Dolente (8 of 9) and Fahey (7 of 9) led the Blue & White to a 27 of 34 performance in the face-off circle. Sophomore Mike Gurenlian (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-Delco) recorded a team-high nine wins in 11 draw attempts.

Senior goalkeeper Kevin Chenoweth (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) played just the first half, making three saves en route to his 11th win of the season. Senior Bobby Chambers (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), freshman James Caruso (Montgomery, N.J./Montgomery) and freshman Steve Farrell (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) also saw action in the Cavaliers' cage.

The Blue & White defense held Neumann scoreless through the first two periods while the offense was firing on all cyclinders. Cabrini raced to a 13-0 advantage at the intermission behind four goals from Reimer and four points on two scores and two helpers from Grugan and Skulski.

The Cavaliers' advantage ballooned to 18-0 with 12:23 remaining in the third period following Grugan's third goal of the contest on a feed from Hill in front. Sophomore midfielder Justin Mailloux halted the Neumann offensive stalemate, putting the visitors on the scoreboard with 10:58 remaining in the third quarter.

Cabrini's lead grew twice grew to a game-high 20 goals in the fourth quarter. Senior midfielder Terence Jones' (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) score at the 11:21 mark pushed the Cavaliers' advantage to 23-3. Senior attack Guy Columbro's (Oreland, Pa./Roman Catholic) marker with 6:43 on the clock extended the score to 24-4.
