No. 5 College of New Jersey Grounds the Red Hawks
Ewing, NJ ... The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team kept its New Jersey Athletic Conference record perfect as the Lions dominated early en route to a 15-4 victory over visiting Montclair State University on Tuesday at Lions' Stadium.
TCNJ won the first 10 draw controls of the game and cashed in on each possession racing out to a 10-0 lead just 10 minutes into the game. The Lions would add one more goal the rest of the half taking an 11-0 lead into the break.
Each team scored four times in the second frame, making the final margin 15-4. The Lions are now 3-0 in conference play and are 11-2 overall, while the Red Hawks slipped to 1-2 in the NJAC and 5-9 overall.
Senior Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) led all players in the game with six points scoring a pair of goals, while dishing out four assists. Freshman Kathleen Notos Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) and junior Robin Deehan (Morris Plains, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) each added to the win with three goals apiece, while sophomore Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) and senior Rachel Gordon (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) each tallied twice.
Senior Marykate DiBenedetto (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) picked up a pair of goals for Montclair State, while Cora Delfini (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) and Maggie Fallon (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) also scored.
Sophomore Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) picked up the win making three saves, while Laura Wasserman (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) made one save.
In goal for the Red Hawks, freshman Christina Crossin (Milford, CT/Lauralton Hall) made eight saves.
The Lions are home again on Thursday, April 23 hosting College of Mount Saint Vincent at 7:00 p.m., while the Red Hawks are right back on the field on Wednesday hosting The Sage Colleges at 7:00 p.m.
