NLL Entry Draft - Brodie Merrill Selected First Overall
Brodie Merrill, a defenseman from Georgetown University, was selected first overall in the National Lacrosse League 2005 Entry Draft. Merrill was selected by the expansion Portland (OR) LumberJax with the top pick. The entry draft was held at Rexall Place in Edmonton, home arena of the expansion Edmonton Rush.
The Rochester Knighthawks acquired forward Shawn Evans from Bellarmine (KY) University. The Philadelphia Wings followed with back-to-back picks, selecting Sean Greenhalgh from Cornell University with the third overall selection and Luke Wiles from University of Delaware with the fourth overall selection.
Philadelphia also acquired NCAA stars Kyle Harrison (John Hopkins University) in the second round, and John Christmas (University of Virginia) in the fourth round.
Other notable selections include the San Jose Stealth selecting goaltender Matt Vinc (Canisius College) at sixth overall as well as Jarret Park (Syracuse University) at 19th overall. Rochester acquired Scott Ditzell (Syracuse University) with the 12th overall pick.
