Oneonta Downs Morrisville State in SUNYAC Action

SUNY Oneonta senior Troy Lepore (Cortlandt/Hendrick Hudson) scored a goal and assisted on four others today as the host Red Dragons defeated Morrisville State 11-6 in SUNYAC men's lacrosse action. Oneonta (6-8/2-4) broke open a 4-4 halftime tie with seven second half goals en route to the victory.

Freshman Blair Hanson (Fayetteville/Fayetteville Manlius) and sophomore Ryan Waibel (West Islip/West Islip) each scored a pair of goals in the second half to lead the attack. The hosts jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Lepore and junior Steve Loesch (Massapequa/Massapequa).

The Red Dragons held a 3-1 in the opening quarter before Morrisville (4-10/0-6) scored back-to-back goals to knot the score at 3-3 at the end of the opening stanza. Junior Tim Bobbett (Cazenovia/Brothers Academy) and freshman Nelson Boyd (Waterloo/Waterloo) each registered unassisted goals.

The two teams exchanged goals in the second period for the 4-4 tie at the break. Senior Dennis Headrick (Kings Park/Kings Park) scored for Oneonta with an assist from Lepore. Junior Tom Moore (Rush/Rush Henrietta) tallied for the Mustangs with an assist from Bobbett.

Senior Nick Murray (West Babylon/West Babylon) and sophomore Sean Reynolds (Bethpage/Bethpage) combined to make eight saves for Oneonta. Sophomore Eric Stein (Oswego/Oswego) made 14 saves for the visitors.

Oneonta will be on the road for its final SUNYAC contest of the season this Saturday when they are at Oswego for a game beginning at 2:30 p.m.
