Saint Anselm Rolls Past AIC for Third Straight Tourney Bid

Manchester, N.H. (April 24) -- Seven different players scored for Saint Anselm as the Hawks wrapped up the regular season with a 14-9 win over visiting American International on Friday afternoon at Grappone Stadium. The Hawks advance to the Northeast-10 Tournament for the third straight season. Prior to the game, six members of the Saint Anselm Senior Class were honored as part of the program's Senior Day activities.

The hosts jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead after one period and took a 7-4 lead into the halftime break. The Yellow Jackets closed the gap to within two goals twice in the second half, including at 10-8 late in the third quarter. The Saint Anselm offense came alive though with four unanswered goals to put the game out of reach at 14-8. AIC added a late goal to account for the 14-9 final.

Senior Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.) led the offense with four goals and Matt Surette (Wakefield, Mass.) added a hat trick for the Hawks. Dan MacIssac and Nicholas Brett each had a hat trick for the visitors. Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.) made six saves in the win, while Mark Taylor had 12 saves in the defeat.

Saint Anselm is now 7-6 overall and 5-4 in the Northeast-10, while AIC completes the season winless at 0-12 overall and 0-9 in league play. The Hawks will face Saint Michael's on Tuesday, April 28th at a location to be determined. A Saint Michael's win over Assumption on Saturday will send the Hawks to Vermont to face the Purple Knights, while an Assumption win will give the Hawks their first-ever NE-10 Tournament home game.
