No. 3-Ranked Limestone Edges Rollins in Shootout
GAFFNEY, S.C.- The No. 3-ranked Limestone College women's lacrosse team defeated Rollins College 15-13 on Friday afternoon at Saints Field. Limestone climbs to 17-1 on the season as Rollins falls to 11-3.
Limestone's Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) led all scorers with five goals. Renee Albro (Purcellville, Va.) had four goals, as Katie Ilott (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) scored twice. Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.), Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.), Raquel Prager (Seaford, N.Y.), and Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.) also contributed goals. Albro and Casey Wilcox (Liverpool, N.Y.) dished out assists.
Erin Growney (Rochester, N.Y.) won six draw controls for the Lady Saints and Ilott had five. Melissa Nakasuji (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) and Lickert picked up four ground balls apiece. Wise and goalkeeper Brigid Milchling (Cockeysville, Md.) each caused two turnovers. Milchling posted five saves.
Marissa Giannerini (Baltimore, Md.) and Tori Snow (Marblehead, Mass.) had four goals apiece for Rollins. Bizzie Durrell (Columbus, Ohio) led her team with five draw controls. Snow had a team-high three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Lisa Weber (Winter Springs, Fla.) had nine saves.
The two teams kept the score close in the first half. Rollins jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the start of the period, and neither team gained more than a two-goal advantage throughout the first 30 minutes. The Lady Saints entered halftime with the 9-7 lead, which proved to be the key to the win as both teams scored six goals in the second period.
Limestone gained as much as a five-goal lead in the second half (14-9) with 12 minutes left to play, but Rollins kept chipping away at the hosts' lead, and cut Limestone's margin to two (15-13) with 1:56 left in the game.
The Tars edged Limestone 16-15 in draw controls, but the Lady Saints held the advantage in shots (29-25) and ground balls (18-12). Limestone was 12-12 in clears while Rollins was 12-17. Limestone scored 8 goals in 14 free-position attempts as Rollins converted 4 goals from 9 free-position shots.
Limestone travels to Severna Park, Md., to play Dowling College on May 3 at 12:00 p.m. Rollins heads to Spartanburg, S.C., to close out its season against Converse College at noon on Sunday.

Rollins dropped their third game of the season, and first game against a regional opponent, to the Saints with a final score of 15-13, but it was a hard fought contest from beginning to end.
Rollins (11-3) was led by midfield duo Marissa Giannerini and Tori Snow who netted four goals apiece. Behind them, Bizzie Durell netted two, while Liz Connelly, Cat Kelley, and Steph Wiedenhofer each ripped one goal between the pipes. Assisting on the day was Mallory Surpless as she assisted on Wiedenhofer's lone score in first half action.
The Saints advance to an overall mark of 17-1 on the season as midfielder Lauryn Wise led the game with five goals. Fellow midfielder Renee Albro tallied four and assisted on one to meet Wise's five point total, while Katie Ilott scored two goals on the day to help Limestone edge-out Rollins for their eighth straight victory. Rounding out the goal count were Melissa Howard, Kelly Lickert, Kelly Oterson, and Raquel Prager with one goal apiece as Limestone scored over half of their goals off of free-position shots.
