McDaniel Tops Devils to Keep Playoffs Hopes Alive

(Carlisle, Pa.)- The Dickinson College men's lacrosse team suffered a 12-5 setback to visiting McDaniel College in the first night lacrosse game at Biddle Field on Friday night.

The Green Terror opened with a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and pulled in front 7-3 at halftime. The Terror struck first at the 12:06 mark. Casey Finkelstein (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) scored off a Sam Greenburg (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) assist to tie the game.

The Terror went on a 6-0 run before Greenburg scored unassisted and Finkelstein found the net with an assist from Oliver Thompson (Greenwich, Conn./Bridgeton) to close out the first half.

McDaniel tallied the first four goals of the third quarter to stretch the margin to 11-3. Chris Dodson (Bethesda, Md./Landon) tallied an extra-man goal at the 3:43 mark of the third. Finkelstein tallied his third goal in the fourth quarter to post a hat-trick in his final game as a Red Devil.

Senior Russell Matthews (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) made eight saves in goal for the Devils. Pat Curley (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) won 4 of 7 face-offs while Chip Murray (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) won 5 of 9 on the night.

Gibbs Preston led McDaniel (10-5, 4-4) with four goals. DJ Rickels added three goals while Kenny McHugh stopped eight shots in the cage. The Red Devils finish 6-8 overall and 2-6 in the Centennial Conference.

CARLISLE, Pa. – Gibbs Preston (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) recorded four goals to lead McDaniel to a 12-5 victory over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Friday.

With the victory, the Green Terror (10-5, 4-4 CC) kept its CC playoff hopes alive. McDaniel needs Haverford to defeat Swarthmore on Saturday to earn the No. 4 seed in next weekend's tournament.

Casey Finkelstein tallied twice for the Red Devils (6-8, 2-6 CC), who evened the game at 1-all midway through the first period but allowed six straight Green Terror goals to fall in a 7-1 hole with 9:13 remaining in the second quarter.

Preston started the run with a solo run at the 6:26 mark of the first quarter before DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) finished a Jed Barnes (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) assist just 1:28 later.

Preston and Rickels alternated goals, giving the visitors a 6-1 lead with 12:43 showing in the second period before Matthew Daley (Wilmington, Del./A.I. Dupont) broke up the Rickels-Preston show with a goal at the 9:13 mark.

Sam Greensburg and Finkelstein pulled the hosts within 7-3 at the intermission before Daley started a four-goal flurry with 11:54 showing in the third quarter that stretched the lead to 11-3 with just over 20 minutes to play.

Chris Dodson rounded out the third-quarter scoring before Daley and Finkelstein accounted for an even fourth. Daley and Rickels each scored three times for McDaniel.
