Davenport Outguns Grand Valley to Win Third Straight

ALLENDALE, Mich. - In a matchup between two of the top 10 teams in the MCLA, DU used an unstoppable offense to down Grand Valley 19-16 in Allendale. The win is the 3rd straight for Davenport and second in a row over their rival GVSU.

Davenport, ranked #4 in the country and Grand Valley, #7 have developed a great rivalry over the last two years and Tuesday night's showdown inside the GVSU indoor facility was an offensive feast for both teams.

After racing out to a 3-3 tie at the end of one quarter, the Panthers offense really hit their stride in the second scoring 8 goals while giving up only four to take an 11-7 lead.

Each team then score five goals in the 3rd quarter after making some adjustments but the defense and goalkeeping for the Panthers was too tough. GVSU did outshoot DU 51-31 but Justin Scott came up with 21 saves.

Shawn Beer, Jordan Richtsmeier and Dylan Gilbert led the Panthers offense as Beer finished with 6 goals and the two others chipped in with three each.

DU improves to 11-2 on the year and will take on St. Johns (MN) on Saturday at 2:00 PM. They will then play in the CCLA tournament with hopes of qualifying for their first ever appearance at the MCLA D2 National Tournament in mid-May.
