No. 1 Le Moyne Pulls Away from Southern New Hampshire
MANCHESTER, N.H. – No. 1 Le Moyne College broke open what had been a one-goal game at halftime with five unanswered goals in the third quarter to lead the Dolphins to a 11-5 Northeast-10 men's lacrosse victory over Southern New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field. Le Moyne remained unbeaten on the season at 13-0 and 9-0 in the NE-10, while the Penmen finish the regular season 4-9 and 4-5 in the league.
Despite the loss, the Penmen still have earned a berth into the six-team Northeast-10 Tournament by virtue of Pace's 12-6 loss to Bentley Saturday. Southern New Hampshire will be either the No. 5 or No. 6 seed and will travel for a first-round game on Tuesday, April 28. It marks SNHU's first NE-10 Tournament appearance since 2006.
Jack Harmatuk led Le Moyne with three goals and an assist, while Brian Welch totaled three goals. Matt Chadderdon had a pair of goals for the Dolphins, while Brooks Robinson, Sean Connors and Brian Orlando all had single tallies. Andrew Brown (Marshfield, MA) led SNHU with two goals, while Keith Merluzzo (Billerica, MA) and Dustin Latham (Penacook, NH) each totaled a goal and an assist. Terrence Nash (Oceanside, NY) had the other Penmen goal.
Nash gave SNHU a 1-0 lead 1:52 into the game when he converted a feed from Sean Ball (Salem, NH). Chadderdon would tie the game for Le Moyne with 5:08 left in the first quarter and Welch put the Dolphins up 2-1 with 1:49 left in the frame. It took the Penmen just 15 seconds to tie the score, as after a Gary McKay (Billerica, MA) faceoff with, Brown converted a pass from Latham to tie the score after one.
Le Moyne got man-advantage goals from Harmatuk at 4:37 and Chadderdon with 4:59 left in the second quarter to go up 4-2, but the Penmen would cut the advantage to one 37 seconds before intermission when Latham scored a man-up goal on a pass from Merluzzo. After halftime, the Dolphins took the lead for good 1:01 in on a Welch extra-man goal, and shutout the Penmen while scoring five times to take a 9-3 lead. The guests extended their lead to 11-3 with the first two goals of the fourth quarter.
Doug McIver played the first 54:04 in goal for Le Moyne and made nine saves before giving way to Sebastian Baker, who surrendered two goals without a save. Brendan O'Brien (Hopkinton, MA) made 14 saves for Southern New Hampshire as the Dolphins outshot the Penmen 45-24.

Manchester, N.H. – Senior midfielder Brian Welch (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) and sophomore attackman Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse U.) each scored twice in the third quarter as the #1-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team pulled away from Southern New Hampshire for an 11-5 victory in Northeast-10 Conference action at Larkin Field on Saturday afternoon.
Southern New Hampshire opened the scoring less than two minutes into the first quarter. Terrence Nash took a feed from Sean Ball and scored at the 13:08 mark as Le Moyne fell behind for just the third time this season.
The Dolphins answered back eight minutes later as sophomore midfielder Matt Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) tallied an unassisted goal. Welch put in his first of three goals in the game at the 1:49 mark of the opening quarter off a pass from sophomore attackman Nick DiSarro (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna). SNHU's Andrew Brown knotted the score 15 seconds later after taking a pass from Dustin Latham.
Le Moyne, which went undefeated in conference action for the ninth time in 10 seasons, used a pair of extra-man goals to build a 4-2 advantage. Harmatuk scored an unassisted goal with 10:23 remaining in the second quarter, while Chadderdon scored off an assist from DiSarro with just under five minutes left in the stanza. Latham closed out the half with a goal after taking a pass from Keith Merluzzo with 28 seconds to go.
