No. 1 Adelphi Routs St. Thomas Aquinas to Go 15-0

A balanced Panther attack led the #1 Adelphi women's lacrosse team to a 23-2 conference win over St. Thomas Aquinas this afternoon at Competition Field. The Panthers improve to 15-0, and 3-0 in the ECC, while the Spartans drop to 2-9.

Prior to the start of the game, Adelphi honored its graduating seniors Laura Bennett, Jeannine Holz, Christina Kozakiewicz, Nicole Lein, Rachel Ray and Emily Simpson.

Adelphi opened on a 12-0 run, with sophomore Michelle Ceraso collecting two of her three goals in the opening minutes. Sophomore Kaitlyn Carter assisted on the second goal and followed with an unassisted effort at 26:09. Up 5-0, junior Allison Tumulty notched her hat-trick in just under a minute span, two assisted by Ray. Bennett also had two goals in the rally.

STAC's Lindsey Lawless slowed down the Panther surge with a goal at 14:38, but junior Vanessa Sotcheff's unassisted effort re-nighted the rally, 13-1. Junior Danielle Kafarski scored at 8:52 on a feed from Ray, followed by consecutive goals by freshman Erica Devito, who would finish the day with three. Junior Brittany Fronczak had the last word, scoring with 30 seconds remaining in the half as Adelphi held a dominating 17-1 advantage at intermission.

Junior Holly Burke tallied her second goal of the day to open the second half. Four more Panther goals followed including a free position goal by Lein with 14:25 left in regulation. Jennifer Bruen scored for the Spartans on a man-down situation at 5:27, but it was junior Alyssa LaBosco who picked up the final goal at 4:36.

Kozakiewicz recorded the win in goal with two saves in 37:24 minutes played. Junior Cailtin Fitzpatrick saw time with 22:36 minutes. STAC's Jennifer Kugler had eight stops.

The Panthers are back in action next Saturday, May 2, as they travel to Brookville, New York to take on the #2-ranked C.W. Post Pioneers in their regular season finale.
