Foster Nets Game-Winner as Cazenovia Edges Medaille

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. Freshman Christy Foster (Canton, NY/Hugh C. Williams) scored her fourth game-winning goal of the season with 1:26 left in regulation to lift the Cazenovia College women's lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory over the Medaille College Mavericks on senior day Sunday afternoon.

The Wildcats moved to 11-1 overall with the win and have two more regular season non-conference contests before hosting the NEAC post-season championship game on Saturday. Medaille fell to 2-8 overall.

Sophomore Nicole Kimmel (Rome, NY/RFA) had a five goals and game-high three assists to pace the Wildcats offensively. Junior Courtney Caldwell (Black River, NY/Immaculate Heart) did her part by adding four goals and two assists. Foster scored two other goals besides the game-winner, and also registered two assists. Sophomore Cassandra Gazeley (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) netted one goal to round out Cazenovia's scoring, while senior Lauren Paul (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) dished out an assist.

The Wildcats scored three unanswered goals late in the second half to go up 12-10, but the Mavericks would waste no time getting back in the game. Medaille's Marilyn Meyer (Rochester, NY) made it a one-goal game with an unassisted score at the 3:32 mark, and 58 seconds later Melyssa Tollar (W. Seneca, NY) sprinted down the field unassisted for the game-tying goal and her fifth of the contest. That left the door open for Foster to give the Wildcats the victory.

Cazenovia outshot Medaille 37-27 and outgained the Mavericks in ground balls, 26-20. Medaille committed 34 turnovers to hurt their cause and were also just 15 of 29 on clear attempts. The Mavericks were led by Tollar's five goals.

Cazenovia's Cari Dwinal (Laconia, NH/Laconia) recorded 10 saves in 60 minutes in goal to earn the win. The Wildcats are at Bard College on Wednesday to face the Raptors. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
