Torre Leads No. 15 Cortland Past Potsdam

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Senior Danielle Torre (Massapequa) scored four goals and added three assists, becoming the 20th Red Dragons to eclipse 100 career goals, as the Cortland women's lacrosse team defeated Potsdam, 15-6, in the final regular-season game for both teams. The Red Dragons improved to 11-6 overall and 8-1 in the SUNYAC, while the Bears fell to 7-8 and 2-7. Cortland faces Oneonta on Friday in a conference semifinal game at Buffalo State.

Junior Jess Fritz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) recorded two goals and two assists, freshman Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central) had two goals and one assist and sophomore Brianna Shost (Mahopac) and freshman Erin Kollar (East Islip) scored two goals each. Senior Erin Gallagher (Long Beach) contributed a goal and an assist, and sophomore Megan Clare (Shirley/William Floyd) and freshman Olivia Lynch (North Rockland) netted one goal apiece. Freshman goalie Brianna Straut (Nanuet) earned the start and made three saves in 45 minutes, 39 seconds before freshman Amanda Caloia (Baldwinsville) played the final 14:21 and stopped one shot.

Freshman Carly Richards (Niskayuna) led the Bears with three goals. Senior Allie Nettles (Carthage), junior Nakia Doldo (Watertown/JCC) and freshman Maribeth Simmons (Clinton, CT) each scored once, while junior Molly Lehman-Lewis (Canandaigua) registered an assist. Freshman goalie Sarah Sweeney (Spencerport) made four saves in the first half, and freshman Kaci Milligan (Liverpool/Bishop Ludden) recorded five saves in the second half.

Richards gave the Bears a 1-0 lead at 25:48, but Frritz tied the game just 13 seconds later. Shost, Abbott and Kollar then strung together goals and Cortland led, 4-1. Richards cut the score to 4-2, but Torre connected for three straight goals, the second of the run her 100th career score, to put the Red Dragons ahead 7-2. Simmons and Kollar traded goals to end the half with Cortland ahead, 8-3.

Cortland took control of the game with the first four goals of the second half and led 12-3 with 21:24 remaining. Doldo then made an end-to-end rush and scored her first of the season to stop the run at 20:11. Shost, Gallagher and Lynch scored Cortland's last three goals, and Richards and Nettles netted Potsdam's last two scores for the 15-6 final.
