#10 Washington & Lee Edges #15 Lynchburg to Advance
LYNCHBURG, VA – Will Keigler scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left and the General defense held down the stretch as the third-seeded Washington & Lee University men's lacrosse team defeated #2 Lynchburg College 12-11 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament semifinal matchup.
The Hornets got an early 5-1 lead early in the second period, behind five different goal scorers. The Generals rallied with five-straight goals of their own, two by Drew Koeneman. Each team scored once before the break and W&L took a 7-6 lead into intermission. Each team netted two goals in the third period, and LC's Michael Mundorf (Cambridge, MD/Mount Saint Joseph) evened the score at nine all early in the period.
Seth Fishman gave W&L another brief one-goal lead before Ethan Farrell (Nantucket, MA/Nantucket) answered back at 8:11. General Kevin Feeney found the back of the net at 6:32, but Ben Sauer (Richmond, VA/Collegiate School) knotted the game at 11 less than a minute later to set up Keigler's game-winning tally. The Generals were able to play keep-away with the ball until the final 45 seconds when a General turnover gave the Hornets an opportunity to force overtime, but LC was unable to generate a good scoring opportunity.
Mundorf scored three times for Lynchburg and had two assists. Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) had two goals and Dylan Hoff (Chester Springs, PA/Downingtown East) also added two goals. Dean Evans (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) had a goal and an assist, while Eddie Bilinkas (Randolph, NJ/Randolph), Farrell and Sauer each had one score. Franc Cook (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) recorded 15 stops in net.
Koeneman matched Mundorf with three goals and two assists for W&L (14-3). Feeney posted two goals and an assist and Keigler had two scores. Tim Skeen contributed a goal and an assist, while Connor Locke made 11 saves.
The Generals advance to the finals of the ODAC Tournament and will face top-seeded Roanoke College Sunday in Salem. The Hornets (11-5) await a possible at large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The third-seeded and 10th-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team knocked off second-seeded and 15th-ranked Lynchburg College, 12-11, in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament on Wednesday evening at Shellenberger Field.
The Generals (14-3) advance to Sunday's championship game against top-ranked Roanoke College at 1:00 pm in Salem, Va. Lynchburg (11-5) jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening 17:39 of the game, but W&L responded with five-straight goals, including a pair from sophomore midfielder Drew Koeneman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS), to assume a 6-5 lead with 4:14 left in the first half. The Hornets tied it at 6-6 with 1:55 left in the half on a man-up goal by Michael Mundorf, but the Generals assumed a 7-6 lead at the break following Koeneman's third goal of the half with 1:11 left.
Following a single LC tally to start the third period, W&L assumed a 9-7 lead with 3:03 left in the third quarter on the strength of an unassisted goal by junior attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) and a goal by sophomore attackman Spence Daw (Phoenix, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) off a feed from sophomore midfielder Justin Donati (Walkersville, Md./St. Paul's).
The Hornets again rallied with a pair of goals to knot the game at 9-9 with 13:56 left in the game, but W&L re-took the lead at 10-9 just 2:24 later as senior attackman Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) scored off a Koeneman feed. The lead would change hands four more times in the final 8:11 of the game, with Keigler scoring the game-winner man-up off a Koeneman assist at the 4:59 mark.
