Washington & Jefferson Ends Season with Win over Saint Vincent

WASHINGTON, Pa. Freshman Brittany Oake (Bell Mead, N.J./Montgomery) fired in a game-high five goals, including the game winner with 40 seconds remaining, to lift Washington & Jefferson to an 8-7 women's lacrosse victory over Saint Vincent on Wednesday evening at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents complete their second NCAA Division III varsity season with an 8-7 overall record. W&J increased its win total from last year's inaugural season by five.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair with neither squad leading by more than a goal. Oake tied the game 3-3 with 2:39 left in the half; however, freshman Anne Roslonski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) put the Lady Bearcats (4-7) in front by a 4-3 margin at halftime with a goal with 59 seconds remaining.

Sophomore Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) tied the game three minutes into the second half, but SVC answered with two-straight goals to open a 6-4 advantage with 17 minutes left. Oake scored at the 15:45 mark and senior and Valerie Orchzechowski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) tied the game 54 seconds later.

Sophomore Liz Basile-Louison (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) helped the Bearcats reclaim the lead with 8:52 remaining, but Oake once again had the answer at the 5:30 mark.

Oake then beat three SVC defenders and fired a shot past senior goalie Erica Lisi (Camillus, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) for the game-winning score. Sophomore goalie Amber Kuntz (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) also made two key saves in the final minutes to help secure the win. She finished the game with seven stops.

Freshman Joanne Chjoecki (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier Senior) scored the other Presidents'goal. Sophomore Liz Turcik (Ligonier, Pa./Miss Halls School) and Chojecki both dished out one assist.

Senior Sarah Peranteau (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) led the Lady Bearcats with three goals. Lisi collected 19 saves. W&J outshot Saint Vincent by a 34-18 margin and used a 25-12 edge in ground balls. The Presidents also forced 22 turnovers and grabbed 11 of 17 draw controls.
