No. 8 Georgetown Coasts by Yale to End Regular Season

Washington, D.C. – The Georgetown University women's lacrosse team did everything it could to keep NCAA Tournament hopes alive Saturday with a 12-4 victory over Yale (5-11) at Multi-Sport Field to close out the regular season. The Hoyas coasted to the win to finish the regular season with a mark of 13-6. GU will now have to wait for the NCAA Tournament selections on Sunday evening.

Georgetown started the scoring early with a goal from freshman Erin Lovett (Wantagh, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) as well as a pair from sophomore Mary Beth Brophy (Berwyn, Pa./Archbishop Carroll). Yale got on the board at 12:56 in the first, but GU would go on a 5-0 run spanning both halves to take a commanding lead.

After a goal from midfielder Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) the Hoyas went into the break leading 4-1.

Georgetown continued the run in the second half as Lovett started with her second tally of the game. Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) scored a few seconds later to make it 6-1 less than a minute in. Megan Bloomer (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) connected on a free position shot and Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr Academy) added her first of the afternoon to cap off the run.

Yale gained some momentum around the 20-minute mark with back-to-back goals, but that would be as close as the Bulldogs would come.

The Hoyas answered with four scores in the final ten minutes. Logan McCraw (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) hit an unassisted tally, while Allie Hubschmann (Short Hills, N.J./Oak Knoll) and Kathleen Dwyer (Winnetka, Ill./Loyola Academy) each added free position goals. Brophy had her third of the afternoon and even a score from Yale couldn't stop the Hoyas who got the 12-4 victory.

Brophy led all scorers with three goals, while Lovett added two. GU out-shot Yale 37-11 and had three more ground balls as well as six more draw controls. Caitlin Formby (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) had the win in goal with four saves.

Prior to the opening draw, the five members of the Hoya senior class were honored in their final game on the Hilltop.

Georgetown is hoping for one of the eight at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament field is made up of 16 squads. Eight teams receive an automatic bid by winning their respective conference tournament and the other eight are chosen by the selection committee. The field will be announced Sunday evening on CBS College Sports at 10 p.m.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – No. 8 Georgetown broke open a game that was 4-1 at halftime by scoring four goals in a span of slightly more than three minutes early in the second half Saturday, finishing off the Bulldogs 12-4 in the regular season finale. Senior midfielder Jenn Warden had two goals in her final game for the Bulldogs, while sophomore midfielder/defender Kaitlyn Flatley and freshman midfielder/defender Erin Velez also scored. Freshman goalkeeper Whitney Quackenbush made 13 saves.

The first three minutes set the tone for the game, as the Hoyas got the opening draw control and set up on offense. The Bulldog defense held tough, and Georgetown wound up turning the ball over multiple times, but Yale could never clear the ball. Erin Lovett was eventually able to get Georgetown on the scoreboard at 26:45.

After a pair of goals by Mary Beth Brophy extended Georgetown's lead to 3-0, Flatley's tally at 12:56 got Yale within two. The rest of the half belonged to the defenses, as the lone goal came from Georgetown's Ashby Kaestner.
