Seven Recruits Sign NLIs to Play for Towson in 2009-2010

TOWSON, Md. – A talented group of seven high school seniors, including three from the State of Maryland, have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Towson University and play for the two-time defending Colonial Athletic Association champion women's lacrosse team, it has been announced by Coach Missy Doherty.

Joining the Tigers from the State of Maryland are defender Alexa Demski (Loch Raven High School), attacker Ashleigh Rohrback (Westminster High School) and attacker Olivia Turner (Stephen Decatur High School). They will be joined by midfielder Kelly Custer of Sun Valley High School in Aston, Pa., midfielder Sarah Hogan of Brewster High School in Brewster, N.Y., midfielder Courtney King of Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, N.J. and midfielder Ashley Waldron of Cicero North Syracuse in Clay, N.Y.

"This class brings in depth in every position," Coach Doherty says. "We are really excited to see the impact they will make next year." A thumbnail look at the Tigers' recruiting class of 2010:

Kelly Custer, Attack, Sun Valley H.S., Aston, Pa.: Four-year letter winner for Coach Becky Zane ... served as team captain as a junior and senior ... three-time first team All-League selection ... named first team All-Delco as a sophomore and junior by the Delaware County Daily Times ... scored 115 goals as a junior ... tallied 89 goals during sophomore season ... contributed 64 goals as a freshman ... three-sport standout who also played soccer and basketball ... four-time first team All-League performer for soccer team who scored 54 career goals ... three-year starter for basketball team who served as team captain as a senior.

Coach Doherty on Custer: "Kelly is an extremely versatile and talented midfielder. She could play anywhere on the field and works extremely hard at both ends."

Alexa Demski, Defense, Loch Raven H.S., Baltimore, Md.: Two-year letter winner at Loch Raven High School ... led Raiders to Maryland 2A-1A championship game as a junior ... earned second team All-Division honors ... named as team's "Unsung Hero" as a junior ... member of SkyWalkers Lacrosse Club for six years ... helped club team win IWLCA Champions Cup in 2008 ... three-year starter for field hockey team ... led Raiders to state semi-finals as a senior ... three-time All-Division field hockey selection ... named first team All-Division twice ... honor roll student ... member of National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society and National English Honor Society.

Coach Doherty on Demski: "Alexa is an athletic and fast defender and she will definitely be a force down at our defensive end."

Sarah Hogan, Midfield, Brewster H.S., Brewster, N.Y.: Three-year starter who has scored over 100 goals with 50 assists in career ... earned All-League notice as a sophomore and junior ... named to All-Section Team as a junior ... starter on 2008 Hudson Valley Empire State team.

Coach Doherty on Hogan: "Sarah is a hard-working and quick player who will bring great athleticism to our midfield."

Courtney King, Midfield, Ridge H.S., Basking Ridge, N.J.: Team captain who helped (Nickname) to 12-10 record and state tournament berth in 2008 ... first team All-Skyland Conference and first team All-Area selection by the Courier News ... led New Jersey with 107 goals and 37 assists ... honored as team MVP in 2008.

Coach Doherty on King: "I really noticed how hard Courtney works at camp this past summer. She emerged at camp as a fast, aggressive midfielder and we are looking forward to her developing here at Towson University."
