Wise Named Conference Carolinas Athlete of the Year
HIGH POINT, N.C.-Limestone College's Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) was named the Conference Carolinas Female Athlete of the Year, as released by the conference office on Wednesday. This prestigious award is presented annually to a male and female student-athlete in recognition of their outstanding athletic contributions and achievements. The awards are voted on by the league's athletic directors. Wise is the first athlete from Limestone to be named Athlete of the Year.
Wise graduated from Limestone in May. She had an outstanding senior season to wrap up her college career. She was a First-Team All-American, a First-Team All-Region honoree and a WomensLacrosse.com First-Team All-American. Wise was named the conference's Player of the Year, Player of the Week and to the WomensLacrosse.com Weekly Honor Roll.
Wise, a team captain, helped the Lady Saints to the Final Four of the NCAA tournament as Limestone posted a 17-3 overall record (11-1 conference). The team also claimed the regular season and conference championship titles. Along the way she set new school records with 64 goals and 60 draw controls recorded on 2009. She also tallied 9 assists for 73 points, picked up 33 ground balls, and caused 17 turnovers. She will go down in Limestone history as the career record holder with 191 goals and 159 draw controls.
