Malvern Prep Names Daniel Keating New Lacrosse Coach

MALVERN, Pa. – Malvern Preparatory School has named Daniel Keating, who most recently served as Malvern's assistant varsity lacrosse coach, as its new head varsity lacrosse coach.

Keating takes the reins from the former coach, John McEvoy, who stepped down after seven seasons of leading the Friar lacrosse program to take the role of assistant director of admissions at Malvern.

"Dan is a great addition to our program," said Malvern Athletic Director Kurt Ruch. "I know his energy and expertise will keep our program going in the direction of success that Coach McEvoy and our other coaches have established for years to come. The Malvern community welcomes him and wishes him luck and success."

Keating, a Philadelphia resident, served as the head lacrosse coach at St. Joseph's Prep from 2006-2008, and coached the lacrosse team at the Taft School in Watertown, Conn., from 2004-2005. He founded Keating Lacrosse Clinics, designed to promote the sport in grades six through nine, in 2007.

Keating was a high school All-American midfielder in lacrosse at Episcopal Academy and also was captain of the soccer team. He played lacrosse at Duke University, where he earned a bachelor of arts in history. He is currently completing his master of science in secondary education at St. Joseph's University.

The new coach has some big shoes to fill as he takes over for McEvoy, who decided to step down as coach to concentrate on his increased responsibilities in admissions and his teaching duties. McEvoy is a faculty member in the social studies department and will oversee the Middle School admissions program.

As the lacrosse coach since 2003, McEvoy led the Friars to five Inter-Ac titles and a state title in 2006. McEvoy is a 1986 graduate of Malvern Prep. He played football and lacrosse at Malvern and was named All-League in football and was named MVP, All-State and All-American in lacrosse. He continued his lacrosse career at Villanova University, where he finished his collegiate career as a two-time MVP and all-time leading scorer. McEvoy also played 10 years for the Philadelphia Wings. He is a member of the Malvern Prep, Villanova and Pennsylvania Lacrosse Hall of Fames.
