Waldvogel Named IWLCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year

Fairfield University head women's lacrosse coach Mike Waldvogel has been named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division I Northeast Region Coach of the Year. The award, announced on Friday, is voted on by women's lacrosse coaches nationwide.

In his first season at the helm of the program, Waldvogel led the Stags to their most successful campaign in program history. Fairfield earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth, on the strength of its second-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament crown. For the second straight season the Stags went a perfect 6-0 in MAAC Lacrosse League regular season play, and Waldvogel was voted the league's Coach of the Year by his conference peers. Fairfield posted a 17-3 record in 2009, equaling the best mark in program history, set one season ago, with Waldvogel as an assistant coach.

A 1996 inductee into the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Waldvogel is the first coach in program history to earn a regional coach of the year award. He is the third Stag head coach to earn MAAC Coach of the Year honors, the first since Melissa Michels did so in 2001.
