M&D Dominates Girls' Club National Championships

Boyds, MD - Chris Robinson's M&D club teams won four of six championships in the 2009 Club National Championships held July 16-19 at the Maryland Soccerplex in front of an estimated 230 college coaches. Carol Rose's Long Island Yellow Jackets and Joe Mosketti's NEMS club also won one championship each. First year Maryland United Lacrosse Club managed to reach two championship games.

2010 Division: M&D 2010 Black, coached by Tony Giro, won the national championship by defeating a strong Maryland United Lacrosse Club 2010 team, coached by Bev Altig and crew. MDULC defeated the always strong SkyWalkers 2010 Blue team, whose club is run by Michael McGlaughlin. M&D 2010 Black also beat a very strong Star Riders 2010 Team, coached by Dick Lighton, in the semifinal, 5-4. M&D 2010 Black was actually a wild card entry into tournament play, ranking 4th out of all 3rd place teams in the 2010 division. The top six 3rd place teams advanced to the playoffs in the 2010 division.

2011 Division: Long Island Yellow Jackets 2011 Blue, coached by Carol Rose and company, won the National Championship by defeating a strong SkyWalkers 2011 Blue team, whose club is run by Michael McGlaughlin. The championship game saw one of the finest individual performances of the tournament, with Shannon Gilroy of NorthPort High School scoring 6 of the team's 9 goals and snaring 5 draw controls. During the first semifinal game, SkyWalkers 2011 Blue defeated a strong M&D 2011 Black team coached by Arvak Marshall. SkyWalkers led most of the way, but M&D made a late charge but came up just a little short and lost the game by one goal, 7-6. In the other semifinal game YJ 2011 Blue defeated PA Express 2011, coached by Maureen Runyon.

2012 Division: The final game was an even matchup between NEMS 2012 (directed by Joe Mosketti) and SJS Pink 2012 (directed by Deanna Knobloch). Just as the games before this one, the score was tied until NEMS hit their tipping point and went on a 3-goal streak to take the lead at 5-4. NEMS got one final point, making the score 6-4 and solidifying the NEMS 2012 victory. ROME 2012 (directed by Ed Levy) and SJS Pink 2012 played to determine who would advance to the final to face intimidating NEMS squad, waiting to see the final outcome. The game went back and forth and was tied 5-5 with only minutes left in the game, when SJS Pink got their second wind and pulled out a 6-5 win over a very impressive 2012 ROME team.

2013 Division: M&D 2013 Black, coached Brooke Kuhl-McClelland and Tom McClelland, won a highly contested game between M&D 2013 Black and SkyWalkers 2013 Blue, coached by Ty Cook and Molly McGlaughlin. During this game, another terrific individual performance was put on display by future Good Counsel product Caroline Peters, who scored the game's first four goals.

2014 Division: In a heated competition between new-comer Fort Hunt Nation, coached by Rick Sofield, and M&D 2014 Black, coached by M&D director Chris Robinson, M&D 2014 Black won 8-7.

2015-2016 Division: M&D 2015 Black, coached by Frank LeQuang, defeated Maryland United Lacrosse Club 2015 East, whose club is run by Bev Altig, by one goal.
