Ashley Wood Named Canisius Lacrosse Assistant Coach

Former Duquesne standout Ashley Wood has joined the Canisius College women's lacrosse program as an assistant coach, announced by head coach Scott Teeter on Monday.

"This is a great opportunity," Wood said. "I'm excited to work with the Canisius lacrosse program and look forward to helping the team win a MAAC Championship. It is also a great chance to further my career in the lacrosse world and gain more experience in coaching."

A two-time All-Atlantic 10 honoree, Wood graduated from Duquesne ranked fourth with 139 career goals, seventh with 157 career points, third with 111 caused turnovers and eighth with 96 draw controls.

The 2009 Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year and second-team regional All-American, Wood set career highs with 56 points, 54 goals, 34 draw controls, 29 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls last season. She led the conference with 1.71 caused turnovers per game and finished second with 3.18 goals per game.

Wood also participated in the US Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament as a defender, becoming one of 64 players to advance to the second round of tryouts.

"Ashley is an excellent all-around player that will bring a wealth of experience to our program," Teeter said. "We are confident that she will elevate our program and help in reaching our goal of winning a MAAC Championship."

Wood graduated from Duquesne with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She will pursue her master's in sport administration at Canisius.
