Houghton Twins Transfer from Denver to Brigham Young

Provo, UT (August 3, 2009) Jared and Jacob Houghton, both members of the 2007 NCAA Division 1 men's lacrosse team and on athletic/academic scholarships at Denver University announced they will be transferring to BYU and will join the men's lacrosse team for the 2009-2010 season. The twin brothers recently returned from two-year LDS church missions to Argentina.

Both Jared and Jacob were presented with a scholarship opportunity to return to DU for the 2010 season, but the brothers ultimately decided that their academic and lacrosse careers would take a new direction at Brigham Young University.

Jared Houghton, a 6'3, 215 lb. midfielder who prior to playing at DU was at Rocky Mountain H.S. (Fort Collins Unified) in Windsor, CO where he was a three-sport athlete excelling in football, basketball and lacrosse. In lacrosse Houghton was named to the all-conference second team and was named academic all-state. In football he has been an all-conference honorable mention selection twice and was named academic all-state. In basketball he was named to the all-conference first team and was an honorable mention academic all-state selection. Jared saw significant playing time during DU's 2007 season and scored the final goal in DU's win over Penn State on February 17, 2007, 10-5. He also tallied 11 ground balls on the 2007 season.

Jacob Houghton, a 6'3, 215 lb. midfielder, was also a three-sport athlete, competing in football, basketball and lacrosse. In lacrosse he was named first-team all-state and all-conference first team. In football Houghton earned academic all-state honors. In basketball he earned honorable mention academic all-state honors. Jacob played in all 16 regular season games for DU during the 2007 season and covered 18 ground balls and recorded 2 assists as a defensive specialist.

"It is indicative of the fact that men's lacrosse at BYU is headed in the right direction and will continue to attract outstanding student-athletes."

Early reports show that as many as 75+ student-athletes are expected to try out for the team the first week of school, which begins August 31st.
