BUFFALO, NY (July 31, 2009) -- Buffalo Bandits Director of Lacrosse Operations Scott Loffler announced today the team has acquired defenseman Chris Driscoll from Toronto in exchange for defenseman Phil Sanderson. Driscoll is signed through the 2011 season, while Sanderson is set to become an unrestricted free agent at Midnight tonight.

This will be Driscoll's second stint in Buffalo, as he scored 84 points (33+51) in 23 games with the Bandits from 1999-2001. Last season with Toronto, the 37-year-old Driscoll had 22 points (7+15) in 16 games, and was 15th in the league with a career-high 104 loose balls. A 17-year NLL veteran, Driscoll has 595 points (233+362) in 203 career games with Toronto, New York, Buffalo, Rochester and Detroit.

Toronto – The Toronto Rock Lacrosse Club have traded Chris Driscoll to the Buffalo Bandits in exchange for defender Phil Sanderson. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

During his 10 years in the NLL, Sanderson has played in 152 regular season games, banked 109 points from 24 goals and 85 assists, and scooped 1089 loose balls.

Originally picked up by the Rochester Knighthawks in 1999 and gracing the team's practice roster, Sanderson was traded to the Albany Attack in 2002 and stayed with the team until the 2004 season when he was picked up by the San Jose Stealth. After one year with the Stealth, Sanderson along with Josh Sanderson, and Rusty Kruger were traded to the Toronto Rock for Steve Toll, Darryl Gibson, and Toronto's first two selections in the 2004 NLL Entry Draft.

Sanderson won the NLL Champions Cup with the Rock in 2005 and would stay in Toronto until mid-way through the 2007 season when he was traded to the Buffalo Bandits in exchange for Buffalo's first round selection in the 2007 Entry Draft.

Terry Sanderson, GM for the Toronto Rock says Sanderson will fit in tightly with the type of defence that head coach Troy Cordingley will be running next season.

"Phil is an unbelievable leader in the room and on the floor," said Cordingley. "He is a smart defender that plays the defensive system well that we will be playing this upcoming year."

"Most importantly," says Cordingley, "he is a proven winner who has won at every level of lacrosse that he has played in.

Sanderson won his second NLL Championship with the Bandits in 2008.

Joining the NLL in 2003 with the Detroit Turbos, Chris Driscoll has played in 203 regular season games. He has recorded 595 points (233 goals, 362 assists), and 949 loose balls over his 17-year career.

Driscoll, who has been with the Rock since being acquired from the New York Saints towards the end of the 2003 season, finished the 2009 season with seven goals, 15 assists and 104 loose balls.

He has won the NLL Champions Cup three times in his career, once in 1997 with the Rochester Knighthawks and twice more with the Toronto Rock in 2003 and again in 2005.

After the retirement of Jim Veltman, Driscoll was honoured as the Toronto Rock's captain, only the second in franchise history.

The Toronto Rock organization wishes Chris all the best for the upcoming season and thank him for his drive, determination and leadership over the past six seasons.
