Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Long Island University women's lacrosse was one of 49 NCAA Division I programs to earn Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Squad honors. Teams with a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.0 or better earned Academic Squad honors.

The Blackbirds posted a 3.30 GPA as a team for 2008-09. Allison Funk, Sara LaNoir, Ashley Prizio, Kristina Scheerer and Jacqueline Simonian were named to the Northeast Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll by earning at least a 3.20 GPA. Christie Wienckowski represented LIU on the Commissioner's Honor Roll by posting a 3.75 GPA.

The Blackbirds will participate in the inaugural Nick Colleluori Women's Lacrosse Classic at Hofstra University on Sept. 26 as part of the fall season.
