St. Mary's (Md.) Earns IWLCA Academic Squad Honor
Charlottesville, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team was one of 62 Division III institutions to garner academic squad honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
To be considered an IWLCA Academic Squad, a team must have had a collective grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Vassar College (3.474 GPA), College of Notre Dame (3.443 GPA), and Washington & Lee University (3.438 GPA) were all named 2009 IWLCA Merit Squads as the teams with the three highest GPAs.
The Seahawks posted a GPA of 3.218 for the 2009 season under first-year head coach Kara Reber. St. Mary's was the only Capital Athletic Conference school to pick up the IWLCA academic distinction.
St. Mary's finished last year's campaign with a 12-5 mark on the year. The Seahawks advanced to the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) semifinals with a 6-1 conference record.
