Three Players Earn IWLCA Academic Honor

Syracuse seniors Christina Dove and Eileen Finn and 2009 graduate Katie Rowan have been recognized by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) for achievement in the classroom during the 2008-2009 academic year. The trio was among the 407 student-athletes from 152 schools honored by the IWLCA for earning at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average.

Dove earned IWLCA All-America Second Team honors for the second consecutive year after leading the team with 59 goals in 2009. She was the BIG EAST co-Midfielder of the Year and a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team. In addition, the finance major was voted to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Second Team. A native of Bel Air, Md., Dove was named to the 2009-10 U.S. Development Team by U.S. Lacrosse in August.

Finn has been a starter on defense for the Orange the past two seasons. She helped Syracuse to 14 wins last season and a share of the BIG EAST-regular season title. Finn, a native of Southington, Conn., started in 15 games, picked up 18 ground balls and caused six turnovers. A dual major in television, radio, and film and sport management, Finn was one of 35 students from Syracuse named a 2009-10 Remembrance Scholar, one of the most prestigious awards given by the University.

Rowan ended her career as the most decorated player in school history. She is Syracuse's all-time leader in points (396), goals (232), and assists (58). Rowan, an inclusive education and sociology major, garnered All-America First Team honors three times during her career and was a two-time BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year. She ranks fourth on the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list and third in career assists. Rowan, who hails from Delmar, N.Y., earned ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large first-team accolades in 2009 after receiving second-team honors in 2008. In addition, she was one of 21 individuals to earn the 2008-09 BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award.

The Orange will open its fall schedule on Sunday, Sept. 27 when it hosts a fall tournament featuring Binghamton, Buffalo, Canisius, Colgate and LeMoyne.
