Seton Hill Announces 2009-2010 Lacrosse Recruiting Class
GREENSBURG, PA – Brian Novotny and Seton Hill men's lacrosse welcome nine incoming freshman and one transfer to their Greensburg, PA campus. An NCAA DII institution and first year member of the East Coast Conference, the Griffins bring in their strongest recruiting class in the program's history after finishing the '09 season ranked 10th in the nation in media poll, highlighted by victories over two top ten teams.
While many schools are looking to bring in larger and larger classes, the Griffins have downsized, handpicking talent from eastern and western Pennsylvania, Maryland, Michigan, New York and British Columbia. "This class is filled from top to bottom with student-athletes who love the game of lacrosse," says Coach Novotny, "they understand the hard work that is expected of an NCAA DII lacrosse player, and they're looking forward to helping this program take the next step toward national prominence."
Chris Ilse, a goaltender from Vestal, NY, (Vestal HS) starred in net during his junior and senior years during which time he earned Academic All-America recognition, two time Division 1 All-Star, and represented his region in the National Senior Showcase, he was selected as an alternate for the Empire Games central team, starting goalie for the Fighting 4 Lacrosse club, and won a Section title in New York's super competitive Section 4. Not only is Chris talented on the lacrosse field, he was a member of Vestal basketball and golf teams.
A midfielder from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Jimmy Delaney starred in box lacrosse for the Port Coquitlam Intermediate Saints, finishing second in the British Columbia Intermediate Lacrosse League in scoring and first overall in points per game. Jimmy also was a member of the BC Select club team, which took the gold medal in the National Field Championships during the summer of '08. A graduate of St. Thomas More Collegiate, Jimmy led his school team in scoring.
Brian Meenan and Anthony Rusch, a pair of US Lacrosse All Americans from Bethel Park high school in Pittsburgh, PA, will join the Griffins for the 2009-2010 season.
An attackman, Brian Meenan, will join the Griffins after wrapping a stellar career at Bethel Park High School where he was a four year starter, two time team captain, and points leader, a US Lacrosse All-American, two time 1st team WPIAL, a two time member of the Pittsburgh ACES Elite club team and a member of the2008 U-19 FCA National team.
Anthony Rusch comes to SHU to bolster the defensive unit. While at Bethel Park, Anthony was named a US Lacrosse All-American , two time 1st Team WPSLA, and a two time team captain. He also was a member of the 2008 WPIAL champion BPHS football team. During summer lacrosse Anthony starred as a member of the Pittsburgh ACES Elite club team for two seasons.
Greg Chaples, a red shirt sophomore transfer from Manhattan College and graduate of North Penn High School (PA), joins the Griffins at the attack position. In 2006 while at North Penn he garnered recognition on the 2006 Suburban One All League 1st Team. Greg also broke the record for most points scored at NPHS, a record that had stood for ten years. He was a member of the Rebel Elite club team, where in summers of 2005 and 2006 he was the club's top point scorer.
Steve Adams comes to Seton Hill University from Fenton, Michigan, where he was a three sport star for Flint Powers Catholic. A captain of the lacrosse, hockey, and football teams, Steve excelled as a midfielder his senior year, earning 1st Team All State recognition, as wells as 1st Team All-Catholic League. He is the consummate team player, having scooped up 129 ground balls and dishing out 55 assists as a senior. As a defenseman for the hockey team, he earned 2nd Team All-State recognition. He was awarded the Brian Burke Memorial Scholarship for his efforts with the Powers Catholic Hockey team.
