Two Graduates Earn IWLCA Academic Honors
LAURINBURG, N.C. - St. Andrews Presbyterian College class of 2009 graduates Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, N.Y.) and Alexa Muraida (Austin, Texas) were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Squad this past week.
The IWLCA has recognized 407 student-athletes at 152 institutions for their excellence in the classroom during the 2008-09 academic year. All student-athletes were nominated by their institutions and have attained at least junior standing academically. Nominees considered had a GPA of at least 3.5 or were in the top 10 percent of their squad. Included in the list of honorees are the IWLCA Scholar-Athletes of the Year: Anna Ford from Elizabethtown College, Julie Kraus from Southern New Hampshire University, and Kristin Schwab from Princeton University.
Binggeli and Muraida were two of only 55 student-athletes that made the list at the NCAA Division II ranks. The duo played in all 19 games of their senior season and they were both key contributors to the program's most successful season last year. Binggeli provided a spark offensively with 36 goals, 24 assists, and 60 points. Muraida was a starting defender in every game and was able to manufacture 19 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers, and one goal.
