Dartmouth Lacrosse Earns IWLCA Academic Awards

Hanover, N.H. -- The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team and three individual student-athletes have been recognized for their academic prowess by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. For the third-straight season, Dartmouth was one of 49 schools named a Division I Academic Squad for posting a combined team grade point average better than a 3.0.

Individually, three rising seniors were named to the IWLCA Academic Squad which recognizes student-athletes who have reached at least their junior year with a minimum 3.5 grade point average o r in the top 10 percent of their team. The Dartmouth honorees were: Eliza Bennett (Darien, Conn.), geography; Chelsea Kirk (Hunt Valley, Md.), English; Colleen Olsen (Avon, Conn.), French.

A midfielder, Bennett finished the 2009 campaign with 15 points including 12 goals scored in 11 games played, missing five with injury. Olsen's 42 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers put her among the Ivy's elite defenders and she earned All-Ivy and All-Northeast second team honors. She was also named Dartmouth's top scholar athlete of the year. Kirk appeared in two contests in goal as a junior, missing much of the season with an illness. She has played in 15 games for the Big Green during her career.
