Florida State to Host the 2010 Southern Shootout

The Florida State Men's Lacrosse team will host the 2010 Southern Shootout February 19-21 at Harkins Field. The Shootout will feature teams from three conferences, including two conference champions, and three teams ranked in the Top 20 of the final 2009 Prodigy MCLA Top 25 Poll on CollegeLAX.us. Joining the Seminoles in the Shootout will be the Pioneer Collegiate Lacrosse League champion Boston College Eagles, the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association's Michigan State Spartans, and the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference's Georgia Bulldogs.

The Seminoles have won seven of the past eight Southern Shootout titles. Last year, the Seminoles defeated Texas A&M, Georgia and Southern Cal en route to their seventh Shootout title. Georgia won the Southern Shootout in 2008.

"I'm very excited that we've been able to bring top programs from across the country to the 2010 Southern Shootout," said Seminole head coach Bill Harkins, "Georgia is returning to the Shootout for the third straight year, and we're looking forward to hosting Michigan State and Boston College for the first time in Tallahassee. The Southern Shootout has been a great event for a long time, and we're working to ensure that the 2010 edition will be the best yet."

"We are very excited about the opportunity to play three great programs early in our schedule," said Boston College Lacrosse President Mike McCarthy, " Coach Harkins has done a great job in bringing together four of the top programs in the MCLA for what should be a very competitive and exciting weekend of lacrosse. We have had very competitive, hard fought contests against FSU and UGA in the past and look forward to the opportunity of playing MSU for the first time."
