Defending CAA Champ Towson Announces 2010 Schedule
TOWSON, Md. – After winning its second straight Colonial Athletic Association championship, the Towson University women's lacrosse team will open the 2010 season against UMBC at home on March 3 at 4:00 p.m., it has been announced by Coach Missy Doherty.
The Tigers, who have posted a 26-12 record in the last two seasons, will play eight of their 16 regular season games at Johnny Unitas® Stadium, including a stretch of three straight games in early April.
"Our schedule provides us the chance to play some of the top teams in the country and our conference is extremely competitive," Coach Doherty says. "I'm excited to see what is in store for our team in 2010."
Following the Tigers' season opener, the team will make a pair of short road trips to Loyola (Md.) on March 6 and Johns Hopkins on March 10. The Tigers will return home on March 13 to welcome George Washington to Unitas Stadium before traveling to Syracuse University on March 17 for a game against the Orange.
After home games against Richmond and Mount St. Mary's, the Tigers will travel to the University of Maryland on March 31 for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Terrapins, who reached the NCAA semi-finals last year.
On April 3, the Tigers will open their Colonial Athletic Association schedule against the University of Delaware to start a three-game homestand. The Tigers' first full weekend of CAA action will feature home games against James Madison on April 9 and George Mason on April 11.
The Tigers will start a three-game road trip on April 16 when they visit Old Dominion before traveling to William & Mary on April 18. The Tigers finish the road trip with an April 23 conference game at Drexel.
On April 25, the Tigers will finish their regular season home schedule with their final CAA game against Hofstra before ending the regular season at Temple on April 29.
The CAA Championship will be held at the site of the regular season champion on May 6 and 8. William & Mary has hosted the event in each of the last two years.
The first round of the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship will take place on campus sites on May 16 before the quarter-finals are held on May 22. For the third straight year, the NCAA semifinals and championship game will be held at Unitas Stadium. The semi-finals are slated for May 28 while the championship game will take place on Sunday, May 30.
The Tigers finished last year with a 13-6 record and made their third appearance in the NCAA tournament in the last five years.
