Hofstra Lacrosse Releases Schedule for 2010 Season

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Abby Morgan today released her squad's 2010 schedule, a slate that is highlighted by contests against three teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2009 and non-conference home games against Notre Dame, Rutgers and Oregon.

Six of the teams on the Pride's 2010 schedule were ranked in the final IWLCA/Under Armour Division I Weekly Poll of 2009, led by Pennsylvania at #5 and Notre Dame at #6. Also appearing in the final poll was Cornell (#18), Stanford (#14), William & Mary (#20) and Towson (#16).

Hofstra begins the season with three straight home games, starting with a contest against Saint Mary's (CA) on February 20 at 1:00 p.m. Following that game, the Pride will take on Notre Dame on Tuesday, February 23 at 4:00 p.m. Hofstra and the Fighting Irish have met two previous times, including last season's entertaining contest, which saw Notre Dame prevail by the score of 17-15. The Pride will close the month with a 1:00 p.m. encounter against Albany on February 27 before opening March with a pair of road contests.

The Pride will head to Ithaca, New York to begin March as they will take on the Big Red of Cornell on March 6 at 12:00 p.m. Hofstra and Cornell will be meeting for the eighth time, including games in each of the last seven seasons. Probably the highlight of the 2010 slate will be the trip to Philadelphia on March 10 to take on Pennsylvania. The Quakers advanced to the "Final Four" of the NCAA Tournament last year and compiled an impressive 15-3 record. It will be the first-ever meeting between the schools.

After a home game versus Rutgers on March 13 and a road contest at Stony Brook on March 17, Hofstra will finish the third month of the year with games against a pair of west coast schools. Like Pennsylvania, Oregon appears on Hofstra's schedule for the first-ever time as Hofstra and the Ducks will battle at James M. Shuart Stadium on March 22 at 4:00 p.m. The Pride will then end the non-conference portion of its schedule with a road game at Stanford on March 31. It will be Hofstra's third game against the Cardinal, with the two teams last meeting in Palo Alto, California back in 2004.

The always challenging Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) schedule begins with a home game against William & Mary on April 9. The Pride will play its final regular season home game on April 23 against Delaware and will close its 16-game regular season schedule on April 29 at Drexel.

The CAA Championship will take place on May 6 and 8 at the highest seed, followed by the NCAA Championship which culminates with the semifinals and championship game at Towson on May 28 and 30.
