Providence's Scroggins Commits to Hobart College

Providence High School senior Konner Scroggins has committed to Hobart College. Konner is the third Providence senior from their 2009 North Carolina 4A state championship team to commit to a Division I school. The others are Tucker Hull '09 (Navy) and Braxton Deaver '10 (Duke).

"I'm excited about becoming a Statesman, attending a school that has a highly selective academic reputation and a lacrosse history that is unmatched and second to no one, is fantastic."

Konner was the Panthers third leading scorer and member of the state's best attack trio. A Second Team All-State selection in 2009, Konner looks to continue the Panthers successful ways in 2010.

"Our strength is our commitment to each other. Coach [William Humphrey] teaches us discipline, toughness and how to play the game on the next level."

In 2009, the Providence Panthers (22-1) were North Carolina's best high school team. "We lost some great player's (Tucker Hull-Navy, Pete Wesselman-Stevenson, Greg Basch-Christopher Newport), but we return a good mix of veteran and younger players."

Head Coach Humphrey calls Konner "a very talented player and very hard to defend. We are happy to have him around for one more season; his leadership will be counted on."

Konner played his summer ball for Team Carolina. He is the fifth Panther to commit to playing college lacrosse.
