Simon Fraser Defeats Westminster in Fall Scrimmage

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (October 18, 2009) – Playing their third game in as many days, Simon Fraser concluded their fall trip to Utah with a 13-8 scrimmage win over Westminster College. The Clan were led by senior attack Adam Foss (Cochrane, AB/Cochrane) with 5 goals and 1 assist and senior midfield Russel Thomas (Nanoose Bay, BC/Ballenas) with 3 goals. Colton Dow (Port Moody, BC/Heritage Woods) led all freshmen in scoring with 2 goals.

All 23 players, including three goaltenders, saw significant minutes for the Clan as Co-Head Coaches Jeff Cathrea and Brent Hoskins continued to provide their underclassmen with some valuable game experience. Fraser will wrap-up their fall schedule next Sunday, October 25 in Bellingham, WA with scrimmages against regional PNCLL Div. II opponents Central Washington, Pacific Lutheran, and Western Washington.

- Eight (8) SFU players registered points: Foss 5g, 1a; Thomas 3g; Dow 2g; Chris Tessarolo (New Westminster, BC / New Westminster) 2g, 1a; Mark Hilker (Bowmanville, ON / Clarington Central) 1a; Stu Mills (Campbell River, BC / Timberline) 1a; Kevin Riley (Coquitlam, BC / Gleneagle Secondary) 1g; Josh Simons (Port Moody, BC / Dr. Charles Best) 1a.

- Fraser once again dressed twenty-three (23) players comprised of nine (9) freshmen, three (3) sophomores, six (6) juniors and five (5) seniors. Not dressed were seniors Ben Towner (Port Coquitlam, BC / Terry Fox) and Ben Johnson (Calgary, AB / Berkshire) and junior Ben Davies (New Westminster, BC / New Westminster).

- The Clan continued to play all three (3) goaltenders: junior Dean Stewart (Duncan, BC / Claremont), 3 saves, no goals allowed; senior Mike Ripley (Saskatoon, SK / E.D. Feehan) 22:30 minutes, 1 save, 4 goals allowed; freshman Kyle Middleton (Nanaimo, BC / Woodlands) 22:30 minutes, 5 saves, 4 goals allowed.

- SFU registered 29 ground balls. Freshman midfield Hilker led the Clan with 4 while Foss, freshman Taylor MacIntosh (Oakville, ON / Holy Trinity) and Riley each chipped in with 3.
