UNC Men's Lacrosse Team Names 2009-2010 Captains
CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- Two senior members of the 2009-2010 University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team have been voted the team captains for this year's squad in a vote of their peers. The 46-member squad has chosen senior midfielder Sean DeLaney of Moorestown, N.J. and senior defenseman Michael Jarvis of Richmond, Va. as the team's leaders.
DeLaney, a 6-2, 200-pound senior middie who graduated from Moorestown High School in 2006, had a breakout year in 2009 as he was named a third-team All-America by the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. DeLaney scored 35 goals last year, the most goals scored by a Tar Heel midfielder since Jason Wade had 45 goals in 1996. DeLaney had the game-winners in victories over Navy and Johns Hopkins and his 43 points were the third-highest total on the team. DeLaney has 57 career goals to go along with 19 assists for 76 points.
Jarvis has been a reliable defenseman for the past three years, earning frequent starts either as a long-stick wing on the face-off or as a close defenseman. An imposing 6-5, 210-pound presence, Jarvis has been a durable player, never missing a game in his three years as a Tar Heel. He has played in 48 career games, starting 19 of them. He has 39 ground balls and 43 caused turnovers in his career. He was second on the Tar Heel team in caused turnovers in 2009 with 24. Jarvis was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in both 2007 and 2008.
