Rutgers Lacrosse Signs Nine Recruits for 2010-2011

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 20, 2009) – The Rutgers women's lacrosse team picked up commitments from nine high school standouts who signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period, head coach Laura Brand-Sias announced. The group consists of seven New Jersey natives and two New York products.

Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J.), Claire MacDougall (Moorestown, N.J.), Kelsey Miller (Moorestown, N.J.), Erin Turkot (Mountain Lakes, N.J.), Lauren Sbrilli (Martinsville, N.J.), Megan Clements (Pennington, N.J.), Sarah Mahon (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.), Chelsea Intrabartola (Commack, N.Y.) and Hollie DiMuro (West Babylon, N.Y.) will further their academic and athletic careers as members of the 2011 women's lacrosse team.

Five of the seven New Jersey recruits competed in the NJSIAA/New Balance Tournament of Champions, including four which eventually advanced to the championship game. Bridgewater-Raritan (Sbrilli) qualified for the semifinals, while Moorestown (Martinelli, MacDougall, Miller) faced off against Mountain Lakes (Turkot) in the title match. Moorestown defeated Mountain Lakes 11-8 to capture the 2009 N.J. State Championship.

The nine-member class is also comprised of three Under Armour All-American Underclassmen in New Jersey representatives Turkot and Mahon, and New York selection Intrabartola.

"This class will come in at a perfect time," said Brand-Sias. "This year's team will have the stage set for the future of Rutgers Lacrosse and this recruited class will fit right in with the talent and attitude we have on the current team. I am ecstatic about the way things worked out."

Martinelli, a varsity starter for Moorestown, was a member of Quaker squads that won three State Championships, three Group III Championships, three Group III Central Sectional Championships and three Burlington County Division Championships from 2007-2009. An All-American in 2009, she was the leading goal scorer with 61 goals, eclipsing her 2008 total of 24 tallies. Martinelli was also a First Team All-State and First Team All-South Jersey selection in 2009. She also excelled as a soccer player as a three-year varsity starter. Martinelli was twice named a Burlington County Scholastic League (BCSL) Second Team All-Star, helping her squad to three consecutive Group III South Jersey Championships and Group III League Championships.

"Katrina is a very polished high impact player," said Brand-Sias." She has dedicated herself to success and utilizes every tool she has to translate that onto the field. I have watched her career grow and I am extremely excited for her time as a Scarlet Knight"

MacDougall, another Moorestown product, was a defensive starter for the lacrosse team during her sophomore and junior seasons. She was a First Team Burlington County Scholastic League (BCSL) selection as a sophomore and junior and First Team All-South Jersey pick her junior year. MacDougall was a member of three of Moorestown's championship squads, winning titles in the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions, Group III State, Group III Central Sectional and Burlington County Division championships. MacDougall was also a four-year varsity starter on the soccer team, earning second team BCSL honors as a junior and helping guide the squad to four-straight BCSL Championships.

"Claire has always stood out to me," said Brand-Sias. "She is a solid, smart defender with the physical skill to succeed at this level. She is the product of an outstanding program and we are excited for her immediate contribution."
