IWLCA Launches Project IRM to Develop Minority Coaches
The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) is launching Project IRM 2010, a professional development opportunity for minority women's lacrosse coaches. It is the second year of the program that identifies, recruits, and mentors minority women who are interested in pursuing a collegiate lacrosse coaching career. The IWLCA is actively seeking applicants to participate this project as well as collegiate coaches to serve as mentors.
Project IRM provides participants with an all-expense-paid trip to the US Lacrosse convention, a collegiate coach mentor, monthly professional development conference calls, the Project IRM banquet and many invaluable networking opportunities. Funding for the program is generously provided by the NCAA Matching Grants for Advancement of Minority Women Coaches. The IWLCA is also working in conjunction with US Lacrosse.
College seniors, recent college graduates, current graduate students and current collegiate coaches are eligible to apply. Candidates must be female and preference will be given to ethnic/minority applicants.
Candidates will be evaluated on their desire to enter/continue coaching, a commitment to a coaching focus for women's lacrosse, and availability to attend the 2010 US Lacrosse National Convention in Baltimore, MD. Applicants must have a desire to coach at the collegiate level, and have current/previous coaching experience.
Interested candidates can apply online, and applications will be reviewed as submitted. Applications must be completed by Wednesday, December 9, 2009.
Mentors are an essential component of this project. Please contact Jennifer at jennifer.wong@temple.edu if you are interested in contributing to the growth of women as lacrosse coaches.
For more information or questions about Project IRM, please contact Jennifer Wong, Chair of the IWLCA Outreach Committee, via e-mail at jennifer.wong at temple dot edu.
