Long Island U. Lacrosse Signs Five to Join Squad in 2011

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Long Island University women's lacrosse head coach Heather Levins announced the signing of five student athletes for the 2011 season. Elisabeth Blackwell (Naples, Fla..), Ashley Delaney (Pottstown, Pa.), Gina Eberwein (Coatesville, Pa.), Kim Kovar (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Trisha Yeoell (Downington, Pa.) signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Blackbirds.

"We are very excited to announce the signing of five student-athletes for our class of 2014," Levins said. "We can't wait to welcome Ashley, Gina, Trisha, Elisabeth and Kim to the LIU family next fall. They are a talented group who possess the work ethic and commitment that the LIU program is striving for and they all have the ability to make an immediate impact with our program"

Blackwell is a standout midfielder at Barron Collier High School and has also played with the Lax Maniax lacrosse club. She scored 34 goals with 11 assists in 15 games during her junior season. She is an all-league and all-state performer and has helped her team to two state titles.

Delaney is a standout midfielder for Pottsgrove High School. As a junior, she posted 56 goals and 33 assists. She has 174 career goals with 93 assists, 144 ground balls and 164 draw controls. An all-area and all-league performer, she also plays with the PA Express club team.

Eberwein is a standout defender at Bishop Shanahan High School. A four-year starter and a Third Team All-Ches-Mont League pick as a junior, she tallied 10 goals, 16 assists, 43 ground balls, 16 caused turnovers and 12 draw controls in 2009. Eberwein also plays for the SEPA club team.

Kovar will play with the Plainedge High School varsity team this season. A standout in attack and midfield, Kovar scored 37 goals with 31 assists as a junior en route to earning all-county recognition. Kovar also plays for the Liberty club team.

Yeoell helped Downington West High School to the second round of the District 1 playoffs last year. A four-year starter, she tallied five goals, 12 assists, 56 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers as a defender. She has experience at the club level with PA Express.

The Blackbirds open the 2010 season against St. Mary's on Feb. 21 at LIU Field.
