Washington Bayhawks Announce 2010 MLL Schedule

Washington, DC -- The Washington Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced their 2010 MLL schedule today. The Bayhawks will play all six of their 2010 home games at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, MD. Washington opens the summer season on Saturday, May 15th at home against the Long Island Lizards at 7:00 pm.

"We are very excited to release the 2010 schedule," said MLL Commissioner David Gross. "Building off of a successful 2009 campaign, the summer of 2010 offers fans another summer of the best lacrosse in the world."

This summer marks the 10th Anniversary for the MLL which began play in 2001. The Bayhawks are one of the original six MLL franchises, and the team will be looking forward to an exciting tenth season. A mix of young talent and veteran stars highlight the roster, and Head Coach John Tucker is excited about the start of play.

"We had a lot of our young guys make some big improvements at the end of last season, and we finished the year very strong," said Tucker referencing the Bayhawks 4-2 record in the second half of the 2009 campaign. "I know everyone is excited to get back on the field and show people what we can do this summer."

The Bayhawks open the season at home versus Long Island, one of the Bayhawks oldest rivals. The Bayhawks have the slight edge leading the all-time regular season series 10-8 against the Lizards including winning both games in 2009. Each team has won the MLL Championship twice as well and played each other in all four title games.

The Bayhawks follow their home opener with a two game road trip to Toronto on May 22 and Chicago on May 29. The Nationals are the defending MLL champions and defeated the Bayhawks in all three contests in 2009. This will prove to be a strong early test for the young Washington squad. The Bayhawks have fared much better against the Machine, who they have defeated in four of their five matches in the past four seasons.

Washington returns home to host the Boston Cannons on June 4 at 7:30pm. The Bayhawks and Cannons are the two winningest franchises in MLL regular season history: the Bayhawks have 62 wins all-time and the Cannons are at 61. The Cannons do lead the head-to-head series 10-9, and have won three straight games in Washington.

Following the home matchup with Boston, the Bayhawks enter their most challenging stretch of the season with four consecutive games against Toronto and Denver, both of who faced-off in the 2009 MLL Championship. The team travels to Toronto on June 12 and returns home to face the Denver Outlaws on June 19 at 7:00 pm. The Bayhawks conclude their two-game home stand by hosting the Toronto Nationals on June 24 for a Thursday night matchup at 7:30pm. Washington then travels to Denver for a July 4th showdown before the 2010 All-Star Game.

The MLL All-Star Game this season will be held in Boston at Harvard Stadium on Thursday, July 8. The game will be at 7:00 pm and air live on ESPN2.

Following the All-Star Game, the Bayhawks return home for their second matchup of the season with the Boston Cannons on July 10 at 7:00 pm. Washington will then travel to Long Island for their second Thursday night game of the season on July 22.

The Bayhawks conclude their home schedule on July 31 against the Chicago Machine, and they will conclude the 2010 regular season at Boston on August 7.

The MLL Championship Weekend will also be held at the Bayhawks home stadium in Annapolis on August 21 and 22. The Bayhawks will look to return to the post season for the first time since their MLL title in 2005.
