U.S. Teams Sweep Saturday Games at Champion Challenge

Up 7-4 at halftime, Team USA put the game out of reach with five unanswered goals in the first 10:33 of the second half. Corinne Gandolfi factored in the first three, as she assisted Shannon Smith and netted two goals of her own in the run.

Florida would twice get within six goals, but never closer.

Five of Team USA's seven first-half goals came on free positions, evidence of a tightly-called contest in which 15 yellow cards were distributed by officials.

The U.S. seized momentum at the end of the first half when an apparent Florida goal with just under 20 seconds remaining was disallowed. Team USA pushed the ball quickly up field, and Curro scored with 11.2 seconds remaining to turn what might have been a one-goal lead into a three-goal cushion.

Smith added three goals and an assist in the U.S victory. Jackie Lyons had a goal and an assist.

Florida was led by Colby Rhea and Ashley Bruns, who each had two goals and an assist. Brittany Dashiell added two assists, while goalkeeper Cara Canington made 10 saves.
