Boston College Bashes Bryant in Season Opener

The Boston College lacrosse team started off the 2010 season on a positive note by defeating Bryant, 20-4 on Saturday afternoon in Smithfield, Rhode Island. The Eagles are 1-0 on the season, while Bryant falls to 0-1.

Junior Kristin Igoe boosted the Eagles right out of the gate, netting the team's first two goals of the season at 28:30 and 23:05 of the first half. After a quick Bryant score to make it 2-1, BC opened up the scoring by tallying seven of the next eight goals to take a 9-2 lead into halftime.

BC continued its strong play in the second half, with sophomore Sam Taylor scoring to make it 10-2, just over 10 seconds into the frame. Junior Hannah Alley managed to net her second score of the game at 21:33 with senior Lauren Costello adding three more goals to the stat-sheet.

Senior's Peyton Killeen and Mary Stinson and junior Jill Rekart aided in the team's efforts as well with Killeen and Rekart notching two goals apiece and Stinson tallying the final goal of the game with 1:50 left to play in the contest.

Freshman Brooke Blue led the Eagles in scoring on the day as she tallied five goals in her first collegiate game, four of which came in the second half. Costello and Igoe also combined to lead BC in assists, with each student-athlete notching four helpers on the day.

Junior goalie Sheila Serafino recoded seven saves for the Eagles as BC managed to outshoot Bryant, 33-12.

The Eagles will open their home schedule in Newton next Friday, February 26 against Canisius at 3:00 p.m.
