R-MC Opens Up 2010 with a Victory over Widener
ASHLAND, VA - The Randolph-Macon Women's Lacrosse team opened up the 2010 season with a 15-8 victory over visiting Widener on Tuesday afternoon in Ashland.
Erin Clare Cassidy who had a game-high four goals on the afternoon led Randolph-Macon (1-0) in scoring. Elyse Cooper had a hat trick, while Logan Pomeroy, Kelly Egan, Kelly Cramer and Emily Lynch all had a pair of goals in the win for R-MC.
Defensively, Alex Flammia made 11 saves for the Jackets, while Pomeroy grabbed six groundballs to help R-MC to a 25-17 advantage for the game.
Widener (1-1) was paced by Jackie Elliott who had four goals in a losing effort for the pride. Jen Harnden had two goals for Widener while Linda Salcedo made eight stops in net
With the score tied at 2-2, R-MC reeled off five goals, taking a 7-2 lead when Pomeroy scored with just under seven minutes to go in the first half.
After back-to-back goals by Elliott and Harnden to cut the Jackets advantage to 7-4, R-MC got goals from Cooper and Cassidy to head into intermission with a 9-4 lead.
The Pride scored three of the first four goals of the second stanza to draw within 10-7 with 17:28 to play, but Randolph-Macon got goals from Lynch, Cassidy and Egan to make the score 13-7 and seal the game.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on March 8th when they welcome Misericordia to Ashland for a 4:00 p.m. game.
