West/Midwest Region Games of the Week, March 5-10

By Brett Manney

Match-ups in Arizona, Texas and Colorado as well as an interstate showdown highlight this week's games of the week in the West and Midwest. As the season gets rolling, teams across the country are trying to start strong, and these games could influence the rest of the season.

March 5

Brophy Prep (AZ) vs. Chaparral (AZ)
This is a rematch of last year's Arizona Division I state championship which Chaparral won, 10-7, over the Broncos. Each squad will look for their team identity early in this one considering the big players they lost to graduation. Keep an eye out for Brophy's Adam Fishman trying to find any open space with the Firebirds' talented defensemen Ian Gray and Jake Bolwar.

Strake Jesuit (TX) vs. St. Mark's (TX)
St. Mark's tough stretch of games continues against Strake Jesuit. After an emotional 9-8 overtime thriller against Highland Park, the bullseye is now on the Bears, who have contributors from seniors to freshmen. Jesuit is off to a solid start and is not an opponent to take lightly--especially midfielder Tyler McLamb.

March 7

Carmel (IN) vs. Montgomery Bell Academy (TN)
Two of the best teams in their respective states battle for bragging rights. Montgomery head coach John Harvey has built a powerhouse in Tennessee around solid fundamental lacrosse. If Carmel is able to get a huge road win at MBA, they will be poised for another deep run in the Indiana state playoffs.

March 10

Mullen (CO) vs. Regis Jesuit (CO)
The first week of the season in Colorado may bring the season's most anticipated games. Regis Jesuit is one of the favorites this year, returning most of their core, but Mullen star attackman Brain Kormondy must be accounted for or Regis will be in for a long game.

Chatfield (CO) vs. Kent Denver (CO)
Was last year's good season a sign of things to come for Chatfield? Kent Denver arguably lost their best senior class ever and this game will show if the Sun Devils are rebuilding or reloading.
