Shepherd Falls in Inaugural Home Opener to Millersville

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. Brittney Long scored five goals and Liz Weekly added four to lead Millersville University (1-0) to a 21-5 win over Shepherd University (0-2) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

The Marauders, who led 14-2 at halftime, also got three goals apiece from Ashley Henderson, Morgan Mangiaruga, and Katie DiRico.

Shepherd was led by freshman Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) and sophomore Cara Parks (Westminster, MD/Westminster) with two goals each. Freshman Carly Jones (Hagerstown, MD/Smithsburg) also added a goal.

Freshman netminder Emily Rachel (Damascus, MD/Damascus) recorded six saves for the Rams, while Madison Allan had six saves for the Marauders.

Millersville had a 36-15 edge in shots, and a 31-26 advantage in ground balls. The Marauders were successful on 20 of 22 clears, while Shepherd was 6 of 7.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Wilmington (DE) for a 1:00 p.m. contest at Ram Stadium.
